Skills for Specialized and Credible e-Reporters

Abstract

This article studies the skills that should be promoted among e-reporters so that they become specialized and credible. The study employed a document research method and in-depth interviews, using the EDFR technique, among 20 representatives from government agencies, the media, and academia. The study found that being a specialized and credible e-reporter needed reporter’s instinct including a spirit of inquiry, critical thinking, curiosity, knowledge of history and language skills, news reporting skills, communication skills on all online devices, as well as an awareness of reporter’s ethics and professional standards. In addition, e-reporters must have knowledge and skills on content creating process infrastructure to be professionally propagated on digital media. E-reporters should be equipped with updated knowledge covering media convergence or multi-platforms, using AI in news reporting or news programs, as well as technics in employing AI for creating faster, easier, diverse, and interesting news contents. Moreover, e-reporters should be cautious of using AI to avoid violating other persons’ rights or creating inappropriate content.
