Appropriate Administration of Community Radio for Rural Development at Lower Northeastern Provincial Cluster of Thailand

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to study the current situation and problems of community radio on rural development in the lower northeastern provinces of Thailand, 2) to study the concepts and the proper theory regarding community radio management. Rural development in the lower northeastern region of Thailand and 3) to propose a form of community radio administration that is suitable for community development in the northeastern provinces of Thailand. Data were collected from 37 key informants through in-depth interviews. The results of the research showed that  1) Community radio was legally supported and systematically managed by a committee of diverse professions. Problems include a lack of skilled personnel and of supporters. In additions, a transmitter device must be sent to the NBTC. to Inspect annually to the continuous operation without problems of interference from government agencies. 2) Community radio stations focused on rural development in agriculture community development, in infrastructure, in culture and in sustainability. 3) Community radio stations had management styles that focused on the responsibility of broadcasting to the community by defining diverse content community involvement and volunteer’s complaint handling and compliance with ethical standards.
