A Research Synthesis on The Result of English Reading Skills Development

Abstract

This research aimed 1) to study the research features on English reading skills development 2) to synthesize research related to results of developing English reading skills of students and 3) to study mediating effects in the structural equation model and validate the model. The sample were 57 research reports of which 7 were correlation research reports and 50 were experimental research reports, published during 2002 to 2018 by 21 universities. The research results comprised totaling 225 standard indices. The results are as follows: 1) the mean of effect size on English reading skills development was .447; standard deviation was .282. 2) The results of multilevel analysis found that standard indices between the report (.177) was higher than within the reports (.007) 3) The result of the analysis of model fit of the structural equation model development fitted very well level with the empirical data (2 = 54.77, df = 47, p = .20, 2/df = 1.165, GFI = 1.00, AGFI = 1.00, NFI = 1.00, NNFI = 1.00, RMSEA = .007, SRMR = .019) The variables in the whole model could 41% account for the variance of English reading skills development.
