The Development of Training Curriculum to Enhance Competency in Guidance Work of Primary School Teachers in Nakhon Pathom Province

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to: 1) develop a training curriculum to enhance competency in guidance work of primary school teachers in Nakhon Pathom Province; and 2) validate the effectiveness of the developed curriculum. The research process were 1) study background information; 2) develop a training curriculum to enhance competency in guidance work of  primary school teachers in Nakhon Pathom Province; 3) validate the effectiveness of the developed curriculum; and 4) revise the training curriculum. The research sample was 21 guidance teachers under the supervision of Nakhon Pathom Primary Educational Service Area Office 2, derived by multistage sampling. The research instruments constructed by the researcher were a training curriculum, an achievement test, an attitude test towards guidance work, and a work ability test. The statistics employed to analyze data were mean, standard deviation, and t-test.

The results were as follows:

  1. The developed curriculum is comprised of curriculum’s problems and needs, principles, objectives, contents, training activities, media and materials, measurement and assessment, and unit of learning achievement evaluation. All topics were rated in terms of appropriateness from high to the highest level, and all component were congruent.
  2. The teachers’ knowledge and attitudes towards guidance work after training was higher than that of before with statistical significance level of .05.
  3. The teachers’ knowledge and attitudes towards guidance work after training was higher than the set criterion with statistical significance level of .05.
