Abstract

Visual literacy is the ability to learn and communicate visually. This assists with thinking and solving problems in the visual domain, and/or with the ability to communicate information in a visual format. In nursing education, pictures are used in the textbooks to explain concepts, show detailed information, demonstrate instruction, etc. In this article, the author applied visual literacy in learning of pediatric oncology nursing care for the junior class of nursing students attending Boromarajonani College of Nursing Sunpasitthiprasong. The students were instructed to create pictures to communicate the nursing care in dynamic groups. This interesting new approach can draw full attention of the students into the lesson. There are four main points of the learning outcome using visual literacy: 1) enhances creativity and thinking freely; 2) enriches understanding of the nursing care; 3) creates interaction between students; and 4) increases enjoyment of learning.
