Effects of Group Dynamics Activities for Developing Social Skills of Hearing Impaired Students through the Inclusive Education

Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the effects of group dynamics activities for developing social skills of hearing impaired students through the inclusive education. The research tools consisted of 11 group dynamics plans, a social skills test, social skills observation form, journal and opinion inventory form. Data were collected from 6 undergraduate students
with hearing impaired and 32 undergraduate students who attended the principle of cookery class. Descriptive statistics, and content analysis were employed for data analysis. The results revealed that the post-test scores on social skills knowledge of both undergraduate students with hearing impartment and undergraduate students were higher than those of pre-test scores. The development of the students on social skills was found to cover knowledge and skills. In addition, the students were very satisfied with the group dynamics
activities. The results of observation and students’ reflections were found that the hearing impaired students developed three aspects of social skills: communication skills, action skills, and interaction skills. Moreover, the hearing impaired students improved themselves on willing to talk with their classmates, getting along with their classmates, sharing their ideas, can work with others happily, and recognizing the importance of living with others
