Abstract

This research aimed to (1) develop the File Manager board game to enhance Grade 3 students’ knowledge and skills in computer file and folder management; (2) compare the knowledge and skills of students who learned through the File Manager board game with those who received conventional instruction; and (3) examine students’ satisfaction with using the board game in learning file and folder management. The population consisted of 285 Grade 3 students at the Kasetsart University Laboratory School Center for Educational Research and Development in the 2023 academic year. The sample of 158 students from four classrooms was obtained through cluster random sampling. The research instruments included the File Manager board game, a knowledge test, a skills assessment form, an observation form, a learning plan, and a student satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (t-test), along with qualitative analysis through content analysis. The results showed that the File Manager board game was rated by experts as being of “very good” quality (mean=4.87). Students who learned with the board game achieved higher post-test means in both knowledge and skills than the control group; however, the between-group difference was not statistically significant. Students reported the highest level of satisfaction (mean=4.56), particularly with the game’s attractiveness and the engaging, participatory learning environment. The findings confirm that the File Manager board game is an effective and suitable instructional tool for primary school learners, capable of fostering both knowledge and practical skills in managing computer files and folders.
