Abstract

Effect of Storytelling and Cooking Activities on Knowledge and Vegetable Consumption of Preschool Children

The purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of provision of storytelling and cooking activities on knowledge and vegetable consumption of preschool children. The subjects of this study were 25 children in kindergarten 3/2 was the experiment group and 25 children in kindergarten 3/1 was the control group. Treatment randomwas used in this study. The research instruments consisted of 12 lesson plans emphasizing on storytelling and cooking activities, vegetable consumption knowledge test and vegetable observation form. The data were collected by implementing an experiment over a four week period. T-test was use for data analysis.

The results of provision of storytelling and cooking activities revealed that 1) the knowledge on vegetable consumption scores of an experiment group was significantly higher than a control group at the .001 level ( \inline \bar{X} = 8.84 and \inline \bar{X} = 7.12). Percentage of vegetable consumption behavior of posttest was higher than pretest.  The preschool children were also interested in cooking activities and happy facial expression while they were eating their foods, which indicated that the storytelling and cooking activities was positive effect on cognitive, affective and psychomotor domain.
