Abstract

Guidelines for Truck Drivers Development in Taksapipat School for Upgrading Vocational Standard

The objectives of the research were (1) to study the opinions of truck drivers in Taksapipat School related to the level of Knowledge, Skills and Attitude (KSA) needed for career development and their own desires to develop the KSA, and (2) to investigate guidelines for Truck Drivers Development in Taksapipat School for Upgrading Vocational Standard. The research methodology was mixed method which employed both quantitative and qualitative research. Population consists of 300 truck drivers attended the training course at Taksapipat School between October to November 2015, and 24 school staffs and stakeholders. Questionnaires and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) were employed to collect data. Descriptive Statistics was used for quantitative data analysis and content analysis was for qualitative data analysis.

Data from questionnaire showed that, overall, the level of needs towards KSA was at ‘high’ level (\inline \mu=3.86, \inline \sigma2=1.39) and in the meantime the level of their own desires to develop KSA was also at ‘high’ level (\inline \mu=3.70, \inline \sigma2=2.28). Specifically, among KSA, the A (Attitude) was ranked at high level (\inline \mu=3.96, \inline \sigma2=1.79) followed by Knowledge (\inline \mu=3.82, \inline \sigma2=1.09) and Skills (\inline \mu =3.79, \inline \sigma2=1.28) respectively. For their own desires to develop KSA, Attitude was also ranked at high level (\inline \mu=3.80, \inline \sigma2=2.51) followed by Knowledge (\inline \mu=3.66, \inline \sigma2=2.10) and Skills (\inline \mu=3.65, \inline \sigma2=2.22) respectively. Data analyzed from Focus Group Discussion (FGD) are consistent with the conslussions of the questionair and revealed that there should be a promotion for training curriculum development to be standardized at national level.
