Abstract

The Development of Grade 10 Students’ Conception in The Chemical Basis of Life Unit Using Context-Based Learning

This research aimed to develop 43 grade 10th students conception of Chemical Basis of Life in a large secondary school in Nonthaburi Province using context-based learning. The students’ conceptions were collected by using work sheets during teaching and using two-tiertest at the end of teaching. Students’ conceptions were analyzed by grouping into 5 categories and calculated the percentage of students in each group. The results showed students’ concept of chemical basis of life Unit was increased from their prior knowledge launch in the Context orientation stage. The percent of students in 2 groups including scientific understanding and partial understanding were 40 percent; the majority in topic of structure and function of protein, nucleic acid, carbohydrate and structure and properties of water. In the other hand, most of student had partial understanding with misunderstanding in 42 percent; the majority in topic of organic and inorganic substance, mineral up take into cell, and structure and properties of water.
