Development of collaborative problem-solving competency of 11th grade students using STEM activity

The purpose of this research was to study the collaborative problem-solving competency in learning in the topic of acid-base through STEM activity of 30 grade 11 students in a science and technology program. The research instruments consisted of a collaborative problem-solving competency test and a students’ recorded form. The quantitative data were analyzed by determining the percentage and frequency of the identifying behavior in each component of the collaborative problem-solving competency according to PISA framework. The qualitative data were analyzed by content analysis. The resulted showed that students have the highest cognitive skills in exploring and understanding problems (91%) and highest social skills in establishing and maintaining team organization (95%). Moreover, the level of self-perception was affected to students’ problem solving in thinking, planning and executing differently. In addition, the students' perspectives and understandings of problem solving that the method for solving a problem is a fix method and solution impact on learners' ability to discover the type of collaborative interaction required and establishing goals.
