NARRATIVE EXPLORATION IN SECOND LANGUAGE TEACHING IN RECENT 15 YEARS (2007-2022): SCOPE REVIEW-BASED APPROACH

In recent years, narrative research has gradually attracted academic attention in the field of education. However, as a qualitative research method, narrative research has not yet received sufficient attention in the field of second language teaching. This article collected 45 literatures on second language teaching using narrative research methods published in the past fifteen years (2007-2022) through China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). Based on the scope review method, the current development status was summarized. The review found that: 1) the development trend of narrative research in second language teaching fluctuates greatly and is generally divided into three stages; 2) The theoretical framework exhibits diverse characteristics. The commonly used theoretical frameworks are activity theory and third space theory; 3) The research hotspots can be roughly divided into three aspects: teacher practical knowledge, teacher personal growth narrative, and teacher identity transformation narrative. 4) From the perspective of data content, it mainly includes personal experiences or story materials, classroom reality, narrating the participants from the perspective of others, and teaching related materials; The methods of data analysis include discourse analysis and narrative analysis. 5) There are issues such as insufficient emphasis on theoretical frameworks, insufficient academic narrative research, and neglect of research on International Chinese education and learners.
