A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF ELEMENTARY QUANTIFIERS IN THE CHINESE PROFICIENCY GRADING STANDARDS FOR INTERNATIONAL CHINESE LANGUAGE EDUCATION AND THE HSK STANDARD COURSE

Quantifiers are a special category of Chinese words, and their teaching is a major difficulty in international Chinese language education. Based on the comparative analysis and statistical method, we analyze the characteristics of the newly-added, common and deleted quantifiers in the Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education relative to the HSK Standard Course for Elementary Levels, and we find that in terms of newly-added quantifiers, among the newly-added nominal quantifiers, there are more metric quantifiers, nominal quantifiers and both, and among the newly-added verbal quantifiers, there are mostly specialized and a small number of borrowed verbal quantifiers. In terms of common quantifiers, some common quantifiers have undergone grade changes, while the selection of temporal quantifiers has been more clearly labeled; in terms of deleted quantifiers, only the indefinite quantifier "Xie" has been deleted. Based on this, some suggestions are made for the teaching of quantifiers in international Chinese language education and the preparation of teaching materials, which will be conducive to the improvement and development of the teaching of quantifiers in international Chinese language education and the related teaching materials.
