The Guideline for Management of Pig Production Farm Stepping Forward to Thailand 4.0

Abstract

          The objectives of this research were to study problems and obstacles, to study potential and tendency and to set guidelines for the development and standardization of pig farm management to advance to Thailand 4.0 with the methodology based on questionnaire, in-depth interviews and seminars.

          The results showed that management system and housing were substandard, space in farms and the quantities of water used were inadequate, the waste water treatment system and disease prevention measures were not seriously strict. These led to pollution to surrounding communities and having high production costs. Furthermore, it led to trade barriers for cross-border sales of pigs, price fluctuations, and limited amount of exports to foreign countries.

          As resulting of studying the potential and tendency, it was found that most of small and medium-sized farms did not have sufficient capacity to manage those problems and obstacles. However, they tended to adapt and resolve those problems to meet the standards of pig production farms. With all this information, it can be utilized to set guidelines for the development and standardization of pig farm management to advance to Thailand 4.0 by applying the criteria of being a standardized pig production farm which consisted of 3 criteria which were location, management, and the characteristics of farms for the development and standardization of pig production farms.
