Public Participation in Solid Waste Management in Sam Panieng Sub-District, Non Daeng District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province

Abstract

This research used a mixed method, it uses quantitative and qualitative approaches. The purposes of this research were studied of public participation in solid waste management and study the suggestions of solid waste management of people in Sam Panieng sub-district, Non Daeng district, Nakhon Ratchasrima province by using a study from an approximate random sample of 350 people from Krejcie & Morgan. It was used as a sample of qualitative by using a specific method of selecting 15 people, the data collection tools were questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. This research is the quantitative research by using descriptive statistics, including percentage, average ( ) and standard deviation (S.D.). The results revealed that people participated in decision at a low level ( = 2.36, S.D.= 0.86) in terms of participation in operations at a high level ( = 2.72, S.D.= 0.89) participation in receiving benefits at the highest level ( = 3.09, S.D.= 0.84) and the participation in the audit and evaluation at a high level ( = 2.51, S.D.= 0.83). People's opinions about the problem of solid waste in the community were at a moderate level. Perception of news about solid waste management, it was found that television news was the most. Participation in solid waste management overall, at a high level. Policy recommendations should encourage more people to participate. Recommendation of useful the public on waste separation and use of waste. A study on waste management guidelines to Sam Panieng Sub-District Administrative Organization, Non Daeng District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, showed that it should be awareness on waste management of people in the community and procurement of waste disposal sites that are suitable, far from the community and in accordance with sanitation principles.
