People’s Participation in Flood Management: Case Study in Choeng Sae Subdistrict Municipality, Krasae Sin District, Songkhla Province

This research aims to study people’s participation patterns in flood management with Choeng Sae subdistrict municipality, Krasae Sin district, Songkhla province. As well as the results of participation in flood management and flood management development guidelines in the context of Choeng Sae subdistrict municipality. It’s qualitative research. The data collection was studied through documentary research and semi-structured interview. The researcher used in-depth interview with key informants related to flood management in Choeng Sae subdistrict municipality and analyzed the data content analysis.
The results showed that (1) the pattern of participation was like collaboration between people and municipality. (2) The results of participation in flood management resulted in people feeling ownership of the area. The municipality encourages people to take over flooding on their own. As the result, people have trusted and relied on each other to manage floods and (3) Guidelines for developing flood management in the context of Choeng Sae subdistrict municipality. It found that municipality needs to raise awareness of the importance of participation and create citizenship with the capacity to manage floods on their own.
