Abstract

This research aims to: (1) examine the current conditions, the desired conditions,      and the essential needs of the competencies of school administrators toward excellence in the digital era; and (2) study the guidelines for developing the competencies of school administrators toward excellence in the digital era. The research and development process was divided into two phases. Phase 1 examined the current conditions, the desired conditions, and the essential needs regarding the competencies of school administrators toward excellence in the digital era. Phase 2 explored the guidelines for developing such competencies. The findings from the study of current conditions, desired conditions, and the priority needs index were used as a basis for constructing a semi-structured interview form to be applied to the target group in order to draft development guidelines for enhancing the competencies of school administrators toward excellence in the digital era.

The research findings revealed that: (1) Regarding the current and desired conditions, as well as the essential needs of the competencies of school administrators toward excellence in the digital era under the Office of Khon Kaen Primary Educational Service Area 5, the highest priority need was digital leadership competency, followed by networking and collaboration competency, digital management competency, human resource development competency, and the lowest priority need was technology and innovation competency, respectively.          (2) There were 15 guidelines for developing the competencies of school administrators toward excellence in the digital era under the Office of Khon Kaen Primary Educational Service Area 5. These guidelines were found to be appropriate, feasible, and beneficial for use as directions in enhancing the competencies of school administrators toward excellence in the digital era.
