Development of Competency Indicators of Physical Education Teachers in Schools under the Secondary Educational Service Area Office Bueng Kan

Abstract

The purposes of the research were (1) to develop competency indicators for physical education teachers in schools under the Bueng Kan Secondary Educational Service Area Office, (2) to examine the consistency of the structural model of the competency indicators with empirical data, and (3) to develop a manual for applying the competency indicators for physical education teachers. The study was conducted in three phases. The first phase involved synthesizing 10 documentary and research sources and evaluating the appropriateness of the indicators by five experts. The second phase involved validating the model using data obtained from 155 participants, comprising 65 school administrators, 25 heads of academic affairs, and 65 physical education teachers, selected through stratified random sampling. The third phase involved developing the manual and evaluating its appropriateness by five experts. The research instruments consisted of a document synthesis form, an appropriateness assessment form, and a five-point rating-scale questionnaire.          The questionnaire yielded index of item–objective congruence values ranging from 0.60 to 1.00, discrimination indices ranging from 0.28 to 0.72, and a reliability coefficient of 0.94. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson’s product–moment correlation coefficient, and confirmatory factor analysis. The findings revealed that: The findings revealed that; (1) the competency of physical education teachers comprised six indicators, with the overall appropriateness rated at the highest level (M = 4.96, SD = 0.17);  (2) the structural model was consistent with the empirical data (χ² = 10.490, df = 8, p = 0.232, RMR = 0.002, RMSEA = 0.045, GFI = 0.979, AGFI = 0.946), with standardized factor loadings ranging from 0.391 to 0.827 and statistically significant at the .01 level; and (3) the manual for applying the competency indicators was rated at the highest level of overall appropriateness (M = 4.91, SD = 0.24).
