The Effects of Active Learning Management on Creative Thinking

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to 1) study the effect of a proactive learning approach on the creativity and concentration of 3rd year students in the hotel business program in the Chinese Language course; 2) compare creativity and concentration of students during the pre-and post-learning periods by organizing proactive learning activities in the Chinese Language course. 3) study the students' satisfaction with the active learning activities in the Chinese language course. The research population consisted of 3rd year students in Bachelor of Arts programs. The Vocational Chinese course at Suan Dusit University has 64 students enrolled. Research tools used included Activity plan for proactive learning in Chinese language classes; Language Creativity Assessment; Concentration Observation Form  and The satisfaction survey questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze data such as percentages, mean and standard deviation. The results showed that students have higher levels of creativity than pre-study with proactive learning management activities. The results also showed that students' concentration was higher than in the pre-study period with a statistically significant 0.05 level of proactive learning activities. It was also discovered that students were satisfied with active learning activities at a high level (μ = 4.46) and desired to continue such activities at a high level (μ = 4.63).
