An Analysis of Needs for a Bachelor of Science in Sports Innovation and Technology, Institute of Physical Education

The purposes of this study were: 1) the opinions of experts towards the opening of the curriculum for a bachelor of science in sports innovation and technology 2) students’ needs for a bachelor of science in sports innovation and technology and 3) employers’ needs in terms of graduates’ attributes and employability. The sample used in the research were 59 curriculum and instruction experts from the Institute of Physical Education, 384 grade-12 students from 17 schools and 158 entrepreneurs in sports innovation and technology. The data were collected from curriculum-related documents and semi-structured interviews. The instruments were survey questionnaires for the experts, students and entrepreneurs. The data were then analyzed using mean scores (), standard deviation (S.D.) and content analysis.
The results showed that all the 59 experts, equivalent to 98.5%, and 88.9 of the students agreed that a bachelor of science in sports innovation and technology should be offered. As for the needs for graduates in the field, the mean scores were high ( = 4.16, SD.=0.67). Furthermore, the attributes of the students included morality, ethics, responsibility, honesty, application of tools to develop sports and physical strength, making and development of sports equipment and ability to work well with others.
