A STUDY OF THE EDUCATIONAL HISTORY, CHARACTERISTICS, AND CONTEMPORARY CHALLENGES OF CHONGFAH XINSHENG WANISHBAMRUNG SCHOOL IN CHIANGMAI THAILAND

This study takes Chongfah Xinsheng Wanishbamrung School in Chiang Mai, Thailand, as a case study to systematically examine its historical development from the perspective of Chinese language education in Thailand. The research focuses on the formation of the school’s educational characteristics and the challenges it faces within the contemporary context of Chinese language education. By combining historical research and documentary analysis with field investigation, the study traces the school’s developmental trajectory and explores the relationship between educational practices and policy changes.
The findings reveal that the school’s development has been closely linked to shifts in Thailand’s China-related policies and the evolution of Sino–Thai relations. Through successive stages of institutional adjustment and curriculum reform, the school has gradually developed distinctive educational characteristics centered on Chinese language instruction while integrating Chinese cultural transmission with local educational needs. These characteristics have been shaped by traditional Chinese educational values, long-term support from the Chinese community, and continued cooperation with educational institutions in China.
At present, the school still faces several challenges, including the improvement of teacher training mechanisms, the transformation of teaching models in response to educational innovation, and increasing regional competition. This study aims to provide a valuable case reference for future research on the development of overseas Chinese schools.
