A STUDY ON THE CHARACTERISTICS OF PRAGMATIC STRATEGIES OF REFUSAL IN CHINESE SECOND LANGUAGES
A CASE STUDY OF INDONESIAN LEARNERS

Pragmatic study is an important part of the study of second language acquisition. Chinese learners with different levels and cultural backgrounds differ in the development and choice of pragmatic strategies. This study takes Indonesian Chinese learners as the research object, and reveals the characteristics and development rules of Chinese learners' pragmatic strategies at different stages by investigating the use of pragmatic strategies of Indonesian learners' refusal.
The results show that the relationship of social power affects learners' choice of refusal pragmatic strategies, but there are also other factors that affect refusal strategies; the higher the proficiency of Chinese, the more likely they are to use indirect refusal strategies; intermediate-level Chinese learners adopt a slightly variety of indirect refusal strategies; advanced-level Chinese learners are more abundant in the use of refusal language.
