Open Access, Copyright and Licensing
The Journal of Information and Learning (JIL) provides immediate, free online access to its published articles, without reader subscription charges or an access embargo. Articles published from Volume 37, Issue 2 (May–August 2026) are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International licence (CC BY-NC 4.0). Third-party material is subject to its accompanying credit lines. Earlier articles remain subject to the licensing terms applicable to each article.
Copyright remains with the authors or the identified rights holders. Publication in JIL does not transfer article copyright to the journal. The rights holders grant JIL and its publisher, the Office of Academic Resources, Prince of Songkla University, a non-exclusive licence for first formal journal publication, dissemination, indexing, preservation and maintenance of the scholarly record, as set out in the journal's publishing agreement.
CC BY-NC 4.0 permits reproduction, sharing and adaptation, including translation and further development, for non-commercial purposes. Users must provide appropriate attribution, retain the notices required by the licence when supplied, link to the source and licence as reasonably practicable, and indicate modifications while retaining indications of previous modifications. Users must not imply endorsement by the authors or the journal, or impose legal or technological restrictions that prevent others from exercising the licensed rights.
No additional permission is required for uses that comply with CC BY-NC 4.0. Uses outside the licence, including commercial uses that require the rights holder's permission, require separate permission unless otherwise permitted by law. The editorial office may help users contact the relevant rights holders. JIL may grant additional permissions on their behalf only where it has been authorised to do so.
Third-party material is governed by its accompanying rights information. Material expressly excluded from the article's licence is not covered by that licence. Other rights, such as privacy and trademark rights, may also require clearance. Applicable copyright exceptions and limitations are unaffected. This policy summarises the licence; the full CC BY-NC 4.0 legal code governs its terms.
Free access for readers is separate from any charges payable by authors. Please consult the journal's publication-fee policy.
