Abstract

 “Nothing But Thirty” 《三十而已》 is a Chinese drama TV series about three best friends woman who lives together in a center of Shanghai cities and all reach their thirties while facing different challenges in their lives. These Chinese TV series hit the highest rated TV show in 2020. As the audience could see the different lifestyles of each new modern Chinese woman who reach their thirties that already shift from the traditional to the present. A researcher has differentiated three categories of Chinese woman, A: a married woman with Children, B: a married woman without children, and C: a single woman. Category A: a married woman with children. The audience could see from this TV series that would be 1. She’s under pressure from herself, her own family, and the elderly in both families. 2. Not only her primary duty to take care of her husband and children. She is also expected to take care of elderly parents 3. She is forced to participate in society due to her family’s business, but it may cause her trouble due to her shortsightedness 4. woman who already has children will not be fully accepted by her family when she needs to go back to work 5. intelligent woman who is better than her husband might cause her husband to feel pressure on his shoulder and tend to cheat on his wife. Category B: a married woman without children.  The audience could see from this TV series that would be 1. She would be under pressure to quickly conceive a baby. 2. A married couple who does not try to make their lives more enjoyable for each other will become bored with each other. 3. Son-in-law who has a great career would receive more credibility from his parents-in-law than their own daughter 4. Divorced couples and older-aged women with a younger man are unacceptable in elderly social 5. A married woman without children could be allowed to work in a variety of fields and lighten her husband's load by working for the family. Category C: A single woman. The audience could see from this TV series that would be 1. She would be under pressure to quickly find a partner and marry. 2. Blind dating to find a marriage partner is still popular in China, and male qualifications are held to very high standards in Chinese society 3. Sex before marriage is more acceptable in Chinese society than it was previously 4. A single lady faces stiff competition for work in a big city. 5. A single lady must rely on herself.
