Abstract

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is an essential competency for the teaching profession. This research aimed to validate a measurement model of social-emotional learning among student teachers. The study involved 2,060 student teachers with complete response data, drawn from 3 universities across 52 academic programs, selected through stratified random sampling. The research instrument was a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire measuring social-emotional learning, consisting of 57 items with an overall reliability coefficient of 0.954. Data analysis employed descriptive statistics and Second-Order Confirmatory Factor Analysis
(2nd CFA) using Mplus 7.4 software. The analysis revealed that the social-emotional learning measurement model for student teachers demonstrated good construct validity, as indicated by the following goodness-of-fit indices: equation= 140.007, df = 117, p-value = 0.072, CFI = 0.997,
TLI = 0.996, RMSEM = 0.010, SRMR = 0.031. The model comprised 5 dimensions with 19 indicators. The dimension with the highest factor loading was self-management ( equation= 0.983), followed by relationship skills ( equation= 0.965), self-awareness ( equation= 0.913), responsible decision-making ( equation= 0.881), and social awareness ( equation= 0.487), respectively. All factor loadings were statistically significant at equation= 0.01 level, with reliability coefficients for each component ranging from 0.237 to 0.966. Notably, the social awareness dimension yielded a markedly lower factor loading than the other dimensions, reflecting the limitations of directly applying an international framework (CASEL) to a Thai cultural context, and highlighting the need for further refinement of its indicators in future research.
