Abstract

This article focused on the visitor management strategy towards sustainable tourism by studying definitions and strategies using synthesizing and summarizing information obtained from concept review. The study showed that visitor management strategy is a part of area management that leads to the sustainability of attractions through creation of a balance in use of resources in the area for the highest benefit and the least impact in all 3 dimensions which related to the concept of sustainable tourism management. There are two types of visitor management models for sustainable tourism development. First, strict visitor management includes physical management strategy, regulatory management strategy, and economic management strategy focusing on the balance between economic benefits and negative impacts on society, culture, and environment. Second, soft visitor management is the use of directorial interpretive information, behavior, and education. The visitor management would help to change visitor’s behavior to suit the tourist attractions through creating learning and building understanding for visitors. Visitors would also have a positive experience and satisfaction towards the attractions leading to the sustainability of the tourist attractions.
