The Model of Mental Health Promotion with Participatory Action Research (PAR) Approach between School and Network Party for Primary School Student in Mueng District, Chiang Rai

Abstract

The study aim to: 1.Study the depression of primary school students  and 2.Develop a model of mental health promotion with participation action research (PAR) approach between school, network party, and Chiang Rai Rajabhat university for primary school student. The participants were 396 primary students in Mueng district, Chiang Rai. Research instruments consisted of two parts: 1) Demographic questionnaire 2) Children’s Depression Inventory (CDI). Methods of data collection were divided into two phases by following: phase 1was a mental health and Depression assessment in students from five school and phase 2was the development of the model of mental health promotion with participation (PAR) between school and network party for primary school student. The results show high proportion of the depression in students which was 39.4 %.        The school, network party designed the Model of mental health promotion by apply Participatory action research (PAR).The Model was summarized as follows: 1. Chiang Rai Rajabhat University primary school and parents attended a meeting to plan their mental health problems. 2. Primary School Organize meetings, faculty and staff Identify mental health problems of students as planning as a school policy. 3. The teacher monitors the behavior of the students individually by observing and interviewing include a mental health assessment of students once a semester. 4. Have a home-room activity and counseling 5. Chiang Rai Rajabhat University Together with school administrators and teachers to prevent and solve problems. Organize activities "Effective communication with children" to reduce pressure. 6. For students with mental health problem will be sent to the Chiang Rai Rajabhat university or hospitals to investigate and receive the appropriate treatments. The suggestions are the school should vigorously develop and implement intensive care system which could help students. Additionally, schools should design a management structure, policy, objectives, roles of the staff, a committee to operate the care system for the students who have mental health problem.
