A Study of the Procedure of the Secondary School Military Band’s Management for International Band Competition

Abstract

band’s management participating WMC Competition with the score of 85.00 in 2009. The
sample group comprised of 4 administrators, 4 band conductors, musicians and actors, members of
the band, participating the competition in 2009. Hendel Table (Darwin Hendel, 1977) was used
to identify the sample group with the confidence level of 90%. Among the population of 120,
83 were collected. The research instruments used were 3 in-depth interview forms for the
administrators, band conductors and secondary military band students. The findings were as
follows:1. For planning and training, there was one-year-planning project. The training time
was flexible, so there was no fixed timetable.
2. The musicians and the actors were selected by auditioning and volunteering students
who have no experience.
3. For managing personnel and band conductors, additional training teams and
part-time experts were provided.
4. For managing budgets, there were three parts of budgets: domestic expenses, the
expenses in the Netherlands, and the air tickets. Each military band used total expenses of at
least five million baht for the whole project. The larger part of the budgets came from the
private organizations.
5. For the problems arising during the training of the musicians and actors, the
trainings were well-organized and strict focusing on senior and junior relationships, however
there were problems of climates, irregular training, and agreement in groups.
