DEVELOPING SOCIAL SKILLS ACTIVITIES FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS IN PHETCHABURI PROVINCE

Abstract

The objectives of this research were (1) to develop social skills development activities for elementary school teachers in Phetchaburi Province to use in their instruction, and (2) study the results of implementing these development activities. This study was quasi-experimental research. Samples were 90 elementary school teachers from Phetchaburi Province selected by purposive sampling. Research tools consisted of 1) social skills development activities, 2) a knowledge test on organizing social skills development activities, and 3) a satisfaction questionnaire.  The data were analyzed by mean, standard deviation, and t-test. The results showed that (1) The supplementary activities consisted of 8 lesson plans for social skills development. The content covered skills in emotional management, social awareness, problem-solving, and communication for relationship building. The suitability of these lesson plans was rated at a "very good" level, (2) The knowledge of organizing social skills development activities among the sample group was significantly higher after participating in the social skills development activities compared to before, at the .05 level, and (3) Elementary school teachers expressed the "highest" level of satisfaction with the social skills development activities.
