Abstract

This article studies the development of traditional costumes and the representation of the people in northern Thailand. The concept of the article relates to the preservation of local culture and local history. The article carried out a series of primary and secondary sources along with historical research. The objectives of this study were to study: 1) the traditional costumes of the Lanna people, 2) the beginning of the traditional costumes and the influence of ideas from Chiang Mai, 3) the development of traditional costumes in each period and 4) the role of government in traditional costumes. The results of the study show that traditional costumes occurred in the 1960's from “Mauhom” to traditional costumes that adjusting the model from the consensus of the members in the northern society. This study brings about to understanding of the history of local culture and the dynamics of the costumes of the people in the Northern Thailand.
