Abstract

The “Dong Yang-Pornpiboon” Indigo Dyed Mudmee Textile Community Enterprise has evolved from weaving cloth for household use to an outstanding industrial handicraft community in Udon Thani. The objective of this study is to determine if the indigo-dyed Mudmee fabric project is feasible by conducting Financial Cost-benefit Analysis (CBA). The results show a positive net present value (NPV) (122,227-536,232 Baht), which means an investment in the weaving project is a worthwhile undertaking. The production of indigo-dyed Mudmee fabric requires an initial investment in the range of 30,000 to 60,000 Baht and it takes less than two years to reach the payback period. The project generates an average net profit of 21,797 - 84,766 Baht/year/household. It is also notable that this traditional weaving project not only helps to carry on the local weaving wisdom of the community, but also generates an income through the distribution of work and income. However, a sensitivity analysis is recommended for future research to identify how much variations in the input values under a given set of production costs, customer base, and other risk factors that may affect the worthiness of investments in these projects.
